THE CRONE STORIES

She thought she was the healthiest she had ever been

A new story is live today.

Her name is Bari. She is fifty-eight. We met sixteen years ago at a women's fair, when a room opened up at the bed and breakfast she was staying at and saved me from a weekend in a tent. She has been one of my dearest friends ever since. Today her story joins the season.

Bari's story holds a cancer diagnosis. I want you to know that before you press play, because that word lands differently depending on the day you are having. But I also want you to know that it is not really a story about cancer. It is a story about the voice so many of us carry. The one that tells us what we should feel. Bari heard hers clearly one ordinary morning, in the middle of the hardest season of her life, and what she did next quietly changed everything.

She also gave us the question she has been asking herself every day for the last decade. It is in the episode. It might be the most useful thing you hear this week.

Stopping the Shoulds · Bari's Story is out now. If you listen and it moves something in you, send it to any woman you feel would love it.
