THE CRONE STORIES

Today's story is Gertrude's.

Gertrude has spent her life being the one who is there. For her family, for her community, and for people in the last hours of their lives.

She was raised by women who built something solid out of almost nothing, and she learned early how to keep going. Then, in a single moment, the future she had been counting on was gone. What she built on the other side of it is the story I get to tell you today.

If you have ever been the steady one, the one who keeps showing up long after everyone assumes you are fine, this one is for you.

I have known Gertrude for more than thirty years. We met in the early nineties, both of us just finding our way into natural health, and she has cheered on every wild idea I have had since. When I finally sat down and asked about her life, I found out I only knew one chapter.

She is also the last story of Season One, and that was on purpose. She is the eldest woman to sit with me this season, and I wanted her to be the one to close it.

Gertrude's story is live now. Find somewhere quiet and give her your full attention.

THIS WEEK'S SITTING

If you find you want the closing meditation from Gertrude's episode on its own, here it is for you. This one starts with the smallest good thing you can find and lets the gratitude build from there.

WHAT COMES NEXT

Gertrude's story closes Season One. Between now and the end of the year there will be a few special episodes, including a look back at the season and some stories of the women in my own life and lineage. Season Two begins in January.

And I am still looking for women to sit with me. Maybe you have started something new, or come through a divorce. Maybe you are caring for an aging parent, or learning to love your grown children from a little further away. Or maybe, like me, you honestly do not know yet what this next chapter looks like. I would love to hear from you, and you can share your story anonymously if you would rather not use your name.

WISDOM FROM THE CIRCLE

You just sat with one woman's truth. Every Monday I send a letter with more of it, the kind of honesty women usually save for the kitchen table after everyone else has gone to bed. No fixing, no shoulds, just us.
